CHAUCER- SELECTED POETRY


This course will read selections from Chaucer's works in the original Middle English.  The texts are Dream Visions and Other Poems, ed. Kathryn L. Lynch, and The Canterbury Tales (2nd. edn), ed. V. A. Kolve and Glending Olson.  Class time at the beginning of the quarter will be devoted to learning Middle English, and there will be weekly translation quizzes.  There will be a paper (7-9 pages), a midterm, and a final.  Class participation is important and encouraged.   All assignments should be completed before coming to class.  The course will have nine quizzes (90 points), a midterm (100 points), the paper (100 points), and a comprehensive final (210 points), for a total of 500 points.

In accordance with the Honor Code, any detected plagiarism will be penalized, ranging from failure of the course to suspension from school. Attendance is mandatory, and more than three unexcused absences will reduce the grade one letter grade and more than five will result in failure of the course.
