BEOWULF

Beowulf will be largely devoted to reading and translating the text. Except for the first day of class, when everyone will be asked to read the assignment, everyone will read a certain number of lines; each student will have a specific passage assigned. In addition, each student will write a paper (minimum 7 pages) on a scholarly or critical topic due May 28. Each student will present a brief review of a scholarly or critical work on Beowulf which the student will choose. The oral report will occupy a maximum of five minutes. There will also be a final translation exam for students who wish to satisfy the language requirement in Old English.

Students who still feel the need to review Old English grammar may wish to use one of the on-line resources; there are links on my home page (www.du.edu/~aolsen/links).
