Internet retailer Amazon is hoping its latest offering will change forever the way consumers buy and read books and newspapers. And they’re doing it without a single scrap of paper. On Nov. 19, 2007, Amazon introduced the Kindle, a lightweight, hand-held electronic device that allows consumers to easily download and read the latest spy thriller as well as the New York Times. But while the concept of electronic books is not new, the emerging technology behind the Kindle is.
