The Auman Family’s Tradition at the University of Denver

I have worked at DU in the Plumbing Shop since 1984.  My present job title is the Plumbing Shop Foreman.

My family’s University of Denver connection dates back to the early 1920s.  My grandfather, Earl Auman, had a first cousin named Orrin W. Auman, who served on the University of Denver Board of Trustees.  I only learned of this connection in October of 1999 after I had worked at DU for fifteen years.

An April 1, 1923 Rocky Mountain News article chronicled Dr. Orrin W. Auman D.D.'s work.  It had him listed as a trustee at that time and the 1938 University of Denver Kynewisbok Yearbook, continued to have him listed as a trustee.  He also joined Iliff School of Theology’s Board of Trustees in 1918 and served until 1927.  Dr. Auman  remained on an advisory committee at Iliff after that from 1928-30.

Dr. Auman also published a book entiltled,

"BY HELP OF THE INFINITE: A Spiritual Interpretation of Life."

"As head of the missionary movement of the Methodist Church for over 20 years, Dr. Auman was an important figure, but more than that he led a fabulous personal life. To tired professors of theology he was a vitalizing magnate, and to many lay people he was a healer. Ever green, this book expresses the source of his personal magnetism and is unique in its simplicity and truth." Review by Julian J. Joyce
