Associate Professor, Chair of Human Communication Studies

Fran Dickson, Ph.D., is Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Human Communication Studies. Her teaching interests include marital and family communication, personal relationships, conflict and communication, and quantitative research methods. Her research interests focus on communication among later-life couples, conflict among later-life couples and the construction of intimacy among married couples that have survived the Holocaust. She is presently completing a book on ways in which later life couples construct their relational stories, which will be published by Allyn and Bacon. Her work appears in Handbook of Marriage and the Family (2nd Ed.), Southern Communication Journal , Qualitative Research Reports in Communication , and the Journal of Applied Communication Research . She is also a past chair of the Family Communication Division of the National Communication Association. Fran is currently completing a certificate in marriage and family therapy.
