Elsevier ScienceDirect Trial

We have a trial to Elsevier's ScienceDirect platform. We will have access from now through April 28th.

They are providing access to a 4 year backfile (1998-Present) of the journals that Penrose subscribes to in print. This is roughly 100 journals from the Elsevier family of publishers. You can see which journals we subscribe to, by browsing the publications (click on the "publications" button near the top of the main web page. Our journals have a little green icon next to them.) You can also do keyword searches through all of their journals or a specific journal. You might be asked to create a free login and password.

IEEE Journals & Transactions

The University now has a web-only subscription to over 100 journals, transactions and magazines from the IEEE. You can search and access abstract/citation records and full-text documents to most of the IEEE online journals, magazines and Transactions from 1998 through the present. This is the core collection of electrical engineering and computing in the world.

(The following journals are not included in this package - IEEE Spectrum, Proceedings of the IEEE, Potentials, Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Journal of Electronic Materials, Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters, The Institute Newspaper, and the Membership Directory. We do maintain print subscriptions to the Proceedings of the IEEE and IEEE Spectrum.) See the following web pages for more information:

ACM Digital Library and Portal

Thanks to some financial help from the Computer Science Department, we can now provide access to all of the ACM journals, magazines, and conference proceedings. This database contains bibliographic information, abstracts, reviews, and the full-text for articles published in ACM periodicals and conference proceedings since its founding in 1947. They are available in the digital library together with selected works published by affiliated organizations. As of June 1, 2001, it contained:

Other Things to Note

PASCAL Update - The Library has started sending books to the PASCAL storage facility at the old Fitzsimons Army Base. This news announcement gives some backgound -

We are starting to identify the science and engineering books in the Q's, R's, S's, and T's that have not been checked out since 1983. We regard those titles as candidates for transfer to storage. Library staff are inserting a pink slip into each of those volumes to identify them. If you have a reason that the volume should remain on campus, please indicate the reason, sign the form, and return it to the circulation desk.

Major Journals in Electronic Format - Recently, I have had a number of faculty requests for us to start site-wide subscriptions to the following journals, Nature, Science, and the Journal of Geophysical Research, parts A-E. While the access would certainly be welcome supplements to the Penrose print subscriptions, the price for the web access to these journals are much more expensive than the institutional print prices. See the following for more information:
