On November 11, 2003, world reknowned graphic designer and poster artist, Paul Brühwiler, visited the University of Denver as guest critic for classes in eMAD and DMS.

Paul Brühwiler (Pabrü) was born in Luzern 1939. In 1956 he began to learn graphic design with Werner Hofmann at Edgar Küng's Studio in Luzern. In 1960 Pabrü continued his training in Paris, notably with Hollenstein and at the
Editions Condé Nast. From 1965-1973 he lived in Los Angeles. During the time from 1965 to 1969 he worked with Saul Bass, Charles and Ray Eames, and at the Carson/Roberts advertising agency.

In 1969, in Los Angeles, Brühwiler founded his own studio. CBS and A&M Records have been just two of his major clients. In 1973 he returned to Switzerland where he worked for the Swiss National Tourist Office, Swissair, Swiss Television, as well as cultural institutions of the Zürich municipality; Filmpodium, Theatre 11, Kunsthaus Zürich, Museum Rietberg.


1976-1978 returned to the United States. Worked as an independent graphic designer and completed a course in cinema studies at UCLA.1979 returned to Zürich were he continued to work for the city's top cultural institutions and also for Pro Helvetia. 1981-1982 graphic designer for a Swiss Television programme DRS-aktuell. 1983 began teaching graphic design at the Schule für Gestaltung (School for Design) in Zürich. 1985 began teaching advanced courses in visual communication at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst (School for Art and Design) in Luzern. Since 1995 Paul is living, teaching and working in Luzern. A monograph of his work is available: Pabrü, Plakate, Bilder, (Posters and Paintings) 1999 Benteli Verlag.
