Programs for analyzing diffraction-line broadening
The following programs can be downloaded from this Web site:
- SLH (SHADOW's Little Helper, authored by Jens Müller) is a suite of programs developed to make running SHADOW and preparation of input files for BREADTH easier. The self-extracting file SLH.EXE also includes full versions of SHADOW and BREADTH with examples. It is highly recommended that users download this program. Alternatively, both SHADOW and BREADTH are still available as separate downloads:
- SHADOW (the original program, authored by Scott Howard and Robert Snyder, was adapted for a PC). It can be used to fit diffraction patterns and extract parameters of pure physically broadened line profiles for line-broadening analysis with programs such as BREADTH
- BREADTH can be used to calculate the root-mean-square strain and both area- and volume-weighted domain sizes, according to the "double-Voigt" integral-breadth method (see, for instance, Advances in X-Ray Analysis 39 (1997) 457 and Journal of Applied Crystallography 28 (1995) 244)
