Robert D. Melvin

Bob Melvin is a professor at the University of Denver and the owner of R.D. Melvin and Associates, a training and consulting firm. His teaching and consulting work centers on performance effectiveness issues emphasizing persuasive presentations, conflict management, negotiations, organizational communication, and teamwork. He focuses on the development of skills that assist people in better identifying and meeting the needs, desires, and goals of clients and coworkers.

While working for the U.S. Congress, Dr. Melvin developed of new methods for gathering and reporting information to Congress on national and international policy issues. His work received numerous awards and resulted in many changes in public policy. At the University of Denver, Dr. Melvin teaches graduate courses and has received several awards for teaching excellence, including the Alpha Kappa Psi Distinguished Professor Award for 1995 and the Women’s College Professor of the Year Award for 1996.

Dr. Melvin’s work in organizational communication and team building was recently highlighted in U.S.A. Today. The Japanese business community became familiar with his “virtual reality” project management program in a recent interview conducted on “Tokyo Today”. Dr. Melvin’s clients include Cap Gemini America, MONY, Ball Aerospace, U.S. West, Lucent Technologies, MediaOne, the Colorado School of Mines, the U.S. Dept. of Energy, the Colorado Compensation Insurance Authority, the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and others.
