Research agenda
My research activities are anchored around two fundamental notions in the field of library and information science, i.e.,
- the nexus between human cognitive agent and the bibliographic universe
- the interaction between work system and technology system
The bibliographic universe (spoken, written, or recorded word together with images and media resources) is the primary phenomenon of interest for investigation. I am keenly interested in the nature of interaction when a human cognitive agent comes in contact with this bibliographic universe. In addition to the human information seeking behavior that facilitates or hinders how humans find, seek, and use information, I focus on the following research areas:
- knowledge structure, concept representation in information retrieval systems
- classification research, theories of categorization, and knowledge organization, and
- scholarly communication.
In regards to the second major category, my research focuses on:
- information systems and services in organizations
- health informatics, and
- learning technologies.
