As a postdoctoral fellow:
Current PhD students and recent graduates (within 3 years) can contact me directly regarding postdoctoral opportunities in lab. Postdocs are expected to eventually apply for independent fellowships. However, grants funds are sometimes available to support specific projects (see below). When inquiring about postdoctoral positions, please email a brief statement of research interests and professional goals, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and contact information for three references to: Prof. Scott Barbee (scott.barbee@du.edu). Postdoctoral candidates with ideas for independent projects directly related to the main focus of my lab are particularly encouraged to apply.
As a graduate student:
I am currently accepting PhD students in my lab. MS students are sometimes accepted under specific conditions. Usually, positions are initially supported by Graduate Teaching Assistantships. However, grant funds are sometimes available to fully support students working on specific projects. The Office of Graduate Studies coordinates all graduate admissions in the Biological Sciences at the University of Denver. Please consult Graduate Studies for the current application procedure. If you are interested in joining my lab, please indicate "Biological Sciences" and “Cell/Molecular Biology” as your department and major of choice and be sure to contact me directly at scott.barbee@du.edu expressing a specific interest in my research.
As an undergraduate student:
Undergraduates specifically interested in neurobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or genetics are encouraged to inquire about joining the lab. Interested sophomores or juniors are encouraged to contact me directly in person or at scott.barbee@du.edu. Strong candidates will have successfully completed a General Biology, Cell Biology, and Genetics (at a minimum). A background in Neurobiology is also beneficial.
